What is BALC?
Many coaches have looked to student-athletes as role models and captains for our various athletic teams, but are these student-athletes prepared for such a responsibility? With the help and guidance of the athletic directors and several coaches at Plainfield East we have a program that will do just that called BALC (Bengal Athletic Leadership Council). Our mission statement is as follows:
The purpose of this organization shall be to create an opportunity for leaders of athletics to further their leadership skills, to develop character, and to render service to the community all while being a role model in the school environment.
Members of BALC will accomplish these goals through various activities such as monthly classroom sessions, monthly morning breakfasts, and various community service activities. The classroom sessions will be an opportunity for actual teaching of what it takes to be a quality leader and role model. The breakfasts will be a time for current members to discuss any current events and concerns that are taking place in our community. Finally, BALC members will be taking part and creating a variety of community service events that will both aid our schools in the district as well as members in our community. In return, BALC will help continue to improve the culture at Plainfield East and provide students with a sense of ownership for their school.
